We got lucky. We bought a house that is liveable right now. Soooo many, even some that were above our price range, were total fixer-uppers. I mean, ugly carpet, mylar wallpaper, old fixtures, 70's cabinets, weird paint colors (like turqouise), even major structural issues. So... we are very lucky and we love our house. But there is a lot of work to do, to make it "ours". This list will be updated as I see/remember things we want to do. Unfortunately we can't just do everything now, this will have to be a process over a few years. In no particular order, the list:
-New paint in 2 upstairs bedrooms (YAY, it's happening this week, we hired someone, hallelujah)
-New lining on porch roof that leaks
-New hinges for garage door
-TONS of decor changes; new area rugs, new cover for futon, some furniture changes (over time)... a lot that we had in our condo does NOT match this house. I don't want to live in a mishmash of different colors of wood and materials that don't quite "go"
-The hardwood floors upstairs need to be refinished or painted
-Add more plants to backyard and front of house. I've done some of this and will probably not do much more now till next spring.
-Gutters are ooollllldddd. They either need to be replaced or repaired.
-We need to have the chimney lined, according to the inspector.
-At some point we may want to replace the windows (eek, there are a lot of them!!) quite a few of them don't open at all. I guess they're painted shut.
Wow that's a lot of stuff, and I'm sure I forgot some. Well the kitchen, downstairs bathroom and dining room are pretty much perfect. So that's good.
I'm still getting used to the idea of being a HOUSE owner. It's a lot different from a condo.
And yes, I have pics on my digital camera; I will get some of those up in the next day or so.
